Yellow Locks & Yellow Belts

Looks like a scary family, huh? We joined Taekwon-do with just a smidge of trepidation concerning possible conflicts with our religious beliefs. As soon as we learned that our instructor and his wife had not only been married by the late Pastor Ron Mehl, but also walked the Holy Land with him, our doubts were put to rest. We’ve been on the path from white to yellow belts ever since.

One of the best things about my daughter, Andrea, is her generous heart. She’s been begging to donate her hair to Locks of Love for months. Her cousin, Amanda, unsucessfully fought leukemia earlier this year. During those last, painful days, Amanda’s wig gave her a measure of joy.

We finally decided the day had come to cut Andrea’s long curls. I measured that pony tail more times than I could count before I made the first snip! Andrea grinned through the whole thing. Later that night, we prayed for the little girl who will end up with that wig. She might not have even been diagnosised yet, but my daughter’s gift will lift her spirits.

Though both Pastor Ron and Amanda succumbed to the ravages of cancer, they fought a good fight and now live with the Healer.*

*I promise, not every post will be about cancer or death!
