Mozy: One of My Favs

Due to technical issues–meaning I don’t know what I’m doing–I can’t upload the video I wanted to include in the next post. Instead, I’m starting a new feature highlighting my favorite things, just in case you haven’t heard of them yet. Normally, I’ll attempt to post One of My Favs on Fridays so you can go spend your paycheck that very evening buying whatever I recommend. Thus, single-handedly, I plan to save our country from the current economic crisis.

Alas, the favorite I’m highlighting today doesn’t cost a cent. So much for saving America.

Mozy is an automated backup program. I first heard of it on the ACFW loop. Um … right AFTER my hard drive fried and I lost my last few days of work.

Mozy’s running a deal until November 30. If you sign up using this link to Mozy, you’ll receive more free storage. (And so will I!) When my brother’s house burnt down last year, one thing I remember feeling was relief that all my pictures, documents, and emails were backed up off site.

I’ve never heard of a security breach, but I understand how some people might not want their financial info sitting in cyber storage. The great thing about Mozy–besides offering great quality for free or low costs–is that you can choose what should be backed up and when.

If you sign up, let me know. Or leave me a question in the comments.

    Hi Christina –

I manually back up my writing projects and store one set off site. Anything sensitive is on a stand-alone computer – no Internet, thank you very much.

While this is probably not the most efficient method, I don’t trust having sensitive material out on the Net.

    Blessings,
    Susan 🙂

Great point, Susan! I do have it back up my money info–which is probably the only sensitive info I have–because I don’t have any actual account info in my computer. They could hack in and find out how much–or how little!–I have, but they wouldn’t know what accounts they are.

I’ve got every purchase for the last 7 years logged in and I couldn’t imagine losing it!

Well, in an attempt to save the economy from your freebies, I’d just like to offer the services of an online, ENCRYPTED back-up program.

    Check out www[dot]smalltimegeek[dot]com

I don’t know if he has the backup services listed yet, but you can call and ask- his number is on the website.

Anyway, for small buisness and people that need some more capability, it’s $10/mo or $110/year (one free month!), or for individuals it’s I think $50/mo.

I protect my files and emails with a very easy to use data backup software called Titan Backup, the destination is a 500gb WD harddisk, but the company stated that an online feature is under work also. Give it a free trial here.

I also got my hands on a 30% discount coupon from them, during the order process enter this coupon:NEOB-M5VL
