Trip to ACFW

Wizard of Id

What a week! I have so much to say and so many pictures to post, I figure I’ll go through the whole trip one day at a time.

Last Wednesday, I went to bed at 4:30 AM and woke at 7. How had I put off so much work until the last minute? Probably because I had to continue living in the real world instead of locking myself in my office for days beforehand. Not only did Mom and I prepare our one sheets and five proposals, but I made the kids lunches, packed, cleaned, and did my solo one sheets and proposals.

We flew out of Portland, had a layover in Albuquerque, and jetted into Dallas Love Field at 5:45 their time. On the plane or in line, someone would ask where or why we were traveling, others would overhear, and we’d end up handing out business cards. It was very encouraging to have so much interest!

Our WONDERFUL Texas Tour Guide, Rebecca Barlow, met us at the airport. And I mean “met.” We’d corresponded through the ACFW loop, but we really didn’t know each other.

She took us to the Southern Junction, a grill-your-own steak house with a live band. Did I mention it was her husband’s birthday? And that he somehow finagled the waitress into giving him the check instead of us?

What blast, hanging out with new friends…and their friends and family. An overnight in a gorgeous home. Cool kids. Comfy bed. Stylish decor.

Long live Texas!

What a great start. I can’t wait to hear all about it. I’ve been checking your blog for days now, hoping for a morsel. Now here it is. I do have one question, I’m almost too embarrassed to ask. What’s a one sheet?

Don’t blush, Tammy. I had no clue about them either. Seems they are a breed exclusive to ACFW. We used our At A Glance sheets prepared by our agent.

The typical one has your picture, your bio, and a little bit about all your projects. Ours didn’t have a picture because we included the synopsis and endorsements. I’d show you a copy but they give away the ending for both books!

Okay, very interesting. Now I know.

Hmmm! When I get to the point of needing such things will have to either remember or look terribly ignorant on this matter. But, nice tidbit of info.

Is Rebecca Barlow your long-lost sister? She fits right into that picture. Almost looks more like your mom than you do–in that photo, anyway.

I take that as a lovely compliment! What an awesome photo, you’d never know we had just met.

Then again, I believe that true “bosom” friends are made when Divine appointments, planned at the beginning of time, finally come to pass.

I already miss hanging out with you two!! RB
