The Not So Funny Pages

Have any of you been keeping up with the comic strip Better or Worse? Michael, one of the boys who’s grown up and married during the time I’ve been following the strip, just received a contract in the mail for his first book. A few weeks ago he returned to a burning house to get the MS. Not a sane thing to do, but it’s paying off for him. The publisher is offering him a $25,000 advance!

Can I tell you how frustrating it is that a cartoon character has gotten a book contract before I have?!?

$25,000 advance??! In my dreams! Christine, I know it’s frustrating, but I’m trusting the Lord that your contract will come soon. Then all of us will rejoice with you. Hang in there!

Hang tight. Being an author is truly the hardest thing in the world, and yet you will achieve it. I read a wonderful quote once that said, “most writers give up when success is just around the corner”. It’s a profession that takes time and patience. It makes you wait for royalty checks, and advances are never enough to tide you over until the royalties start arriving. Having said that, it’s also rewarding, fulfilling, and if God has called you to it, it’s an amazing way to do what he’s created you to do–communicate. Thanks for stopping by the Boomer Babe Blog. : ) We hope to get to know you better. Suzie Eller (T. Suzanne)
